Create good habits

Happy Friday!

Did you know it takes anywhere from 18-254 days to create a new habit? That’s a broad range. I feel like I fall more on the higher end of the scale around 254, at least for the good habits. It seems that all of the bad habits tend to jump right on and have no problem sticking. Does anyone else have a really hard time creating and sticking to good habits?

Since today is Book Lovers Day, I felt the need to share one of the books I am currently engaged in. This book, High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard, is interactive and has really helped me really think about how and why I want to create better habits for myself.

It is only within the past few years that I’ve found a love for reading. Don’t worry, this all connects. I have been on a self-improvement journey for about five years now and have immersed myself in the wonderful world of books. I never knew that I would be able to really dig deep and find myself through reading. I have learned so much about myself since beginning this journey and while I have used lots of different media and my art, the books have really helped. I tend to stick with biographies and self-improvement books. Learning about someone else’s life and experiences tends to lend a great perspective when it comes to looking at your own life and challenges. Knowing I will gain knowledge about growing who I am as a person, gets me more excited to read.

High Performance Habits is one of the first books to really get me engaged and reflect on what I am reading. Burchard also created a daily planner to go with the book which is amazing! The planner along with the book teaches you how to effectively create good habits in your life. Clarity is the first thing he talks about. You need to be clear about your motivations to create these habits in the first place.

“Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going.” -Jim Rohn

I have a hard time sticking to one thing for a long period of time, even when it comes to creating art. I will lose motivation and spark with a painting if I work on it for too long, then it will sit there unfinished for months…sometimes even years. But I have found that I am doing that less as I have started to focus on building good habits. I definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to become a better self and achieving success for yourself. It has opened my eyes and has changed my perspective on my own habits and choices.

I would love for you to share some of the ways you create habits of your own.

Do you have any favorite self-improvement books or biographies that you would recommend?

Thank you, and HAPPY READING!
